Female Pressure

The project “Female Pressure” is having its 10th birthday these days. “Female Pressure” has been founded by Vienna based DJ “Electric Indigo” in order to gain visibility for women who are working as DJs, VJs or producer. The database is counting more than 1000 female artists from around the world and since the beginning the platform is helping women to get booked by party organizers.
They compiled a music dvd for their birthday celebration. And if you get the chance to see Electric Indigo playing live, go there. She is a great DJ! Love her style.

New Rave kids, blog invaders
Since the band The Klaxons started this New Rave (or Nu Rave for insiders) music trend around 2005, there is a growing number of kids who use blogs to push their music remixes and party photos to the web.
I am fascinated (do I over-use this word???) by the fact that these kids seem to take the web and especially blogs as GIVEN. They don’t think and analyze whether they should use the web for publishing the music remixes or not…. they just grab a blogspot account and do it! And they link like crazy to other blogs doing the same. I would call that a healthy web scene… and I already feel much older.

Podcast numéro… ?
Bonne fin de semaine à tous - repos bien mérité, et un peu de temps pour faire renaître de ses cendres le bien aimé Vu d’ici podcast… numéro quoi déjà?
In memorial: Falco
Hey, Falco died exactly 10 years ago. He remains - even nowadays - the most famous Austrian pop star, known for the international number one hit “Rock me Amadeus”. But I prefer songs like “Jeanne” and especially “Der Kommisar”, which has a pretty cool beat. “Alles klar, Herr Kommisar? Check it out.
Cat Power’s Jukebox
In the line of the great female acts of my generation stands the very talented Chan Marshall, known as Cat Power, who launched a new album this month after publicly coming out of a hard time, recovering from a life of drug and alcohol abuse.
Jukebox features covers from Billie Holiday and James Brown, and is now available in stores and on iTunes.
Unfortunately, no MP3s will be made available for podcasters, as said in the conversation taking place between the label and Cat Power’s fans on Matador’s blog - “No MP3 coupon though - with all the publishers involved for the many cover songs, we can’t get permission.”
Vu d’ici’s topo on Cat Power:
- Watch Cat Power as she openly shares about her recovery in a NYT interview,
- young Cat Power video - lovely dance gestures, how sweet she looks in this video!
- Lived in bars video,
- New York New York cover which is on her latest album, Jukebox.
Listen to Cat Power in podcast #52.
Feist The Reminder, my ipod is all hers
I havn’t been hooked to a record since quite long. She’s got it all, my ipod is all hers.
Björk Wanderlust
Björk Volta
“neurosis,
only attaches itself to fertile ground,
where it can flourish
(…)
fear is a powerful drug,
overcome it and,
you think that you can do,
anything!
(…)
fear of losing energy,
is draining
it locks up your chest,
shuts down the heart,
miserly ,
and stingy,
let’s open up : share!”
Lyrics from Innocence.
I’ve been listening to Björk’s Volta since weeks, walking around Manhattan and bike riding along Montreal’s bike paths with the african beats of Earth Intruders and Hyperballad’s version 2007 Wanderlust.
Sounding a little chaotic at first, i thought of this album as a retrospective of Björk’s work - but in fact no. I realized that the main difference in this album was that for the fist time in Björk’s work, i could clearly hear and feel the influences of other pop-eletro singer-songwriters women of the last years, the like M.I.A, Peaches and PJ Harvey.
Fascinating to see how this icon who inspired many is now herself remixing these inspirations on a new ground, opening herself with powerful lyrics no one should ignore, where she is clearly pointing fear as being a drug, and at our own responsibility for the lifes we get.
No need to say the artwork for this record is truly amazing.
“I have lost my origin
and I don’t want to find it again
rather sailing into nature’s laws
and be held by ocean’s paws
wanderlust!
relentlessly craving wanderlust
peel off the layers
until you get to the core
(…)
lust for comfort
suffocates the soul
this relentless
restlessness
liberates me
sets me free
I feel at home whenever
the unknown surrounds me
I receive its embrace
aboard my floating house”
From Wanderlust.

Musique Locale : Gatineau
Joyeux anniversaire Gatineau.
