BYOB, Critical Mass & Diskfunction

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bots)
Tinkerers take note: today is your last chance to get your automaton on by submitting your creation–however elementary–to Elektra for their upcoming Robo_Coop robotic improv night. Details and a link to the very short entry form here.

The rest of us can see our future overlords in action at Usine C on March 3rd as part of the Montreal All-Nighter.

Critical mass flash mob todaynext Wed on Mont-Royal
UPDATE: Just got an email saying they have rescheduled for Wednesday February 21…
Bipeds are going for critical mass at the corner of Mont-Royal Ave and St-Hubert today next Wednesday at 4 pm. It’s a social-awareness happening brought to you by the Maximum 30 committee and seconded by the good folks at Mont-Royal Avenue Verte, champions of a car-free pedestrian Ave. The idea is to cross the street repeatedly at rush hour (while obeying traffic lights and showing respect for drivers and passers-by) in order to raise awareness about the Plateau’s growing traffic congestion and drivers who act like they are on the Circuit Villeneuve.

Diskfunction & Mutek present Junction SM this Friday
Since a little dance floor action is a sure cure for the mid-winter blahs, you might want to head over to Academy Club this Friday night. Junction SM, aka Sonja Moonear and Dandy Jack, are back in town, having played the Mutek festival last June. It’s more than just sweet beats, however, as you will discover after observing the subtle yet complex interaction at work. Dandy Jack improvises compositions with loops and samples on his laptop, the output of which is fed into Sonja’s DJ mixer. She then combines it with vinyl sources in a free-flowing collaborative dynamic that will make even the keenest trainspotter’s head spin… at 130 bpm.
