Weekly obsession: Jay-jay Johanson

This week obsession is Jay-Jay Johanson last compilation Prologue.

I havn’t been moved by such music since a long time. I remember hearing the hit ‘believe in us’ on a summer day in hamburg at a dinner at etienne’s place. Since that time, i was still wondering what was this song i heard there, still wanted to ask etienne about it but thought he would never remember since it’s a long time ago (lots of memories comming back here, arg..). At this time, i thought it was a black singer who had this strange, low tempered, close to be melancholic voice.

Then, dan came with this record last sunday. Whew.. it just blew me away. Prologue is a compilation (1996 ’til 2004) with new mixes. It keeps playing on and on on my stereo. The low pitched voice, slow beats and emotional lyrics are just way too good. It’s like a perfect evolution of 80’s music. Songs like So tell the girls (2004), Automatic lover, Suddenly and On the radio are just perfect mixes of the best from aha, new order, talk talk and kraftwerk.

I am truly addicted. I dare u to find something better.
