The principles of uncertainty

I received today my copy of The principles of uncertainty by Maira Kalman.

I discovered 2 days ago that at first, this book was a collection of beautifully illustrated posts she created for the NYTimes online, which then lead to the creation of this amazing book.

But to my surprise, inside the book you can read as follow,

Most of the content of this book first appeared online as the author’s column on the New York Times.

and then, a little further,

The scanning, uploading, and distribution of this book via the internet without the permission of the publisher is illegal and punishable by law.

ehm, what? The book was first published on the web! and is still available on the web!

Maybe law should just not allow us to open computers anymore. Forbid the internet, and all means of reproductions of any goods by people. Put everything in safe, sealed boxes we call prisons.

And at last, the title of the book, which in these circumstances is quite appropriate. The principles of uncertainty.

Anyways, i should write more about this book which comes big in time with my artistic practice. It is like a sudden glow of light in a tunnel which i found was quite dark.

I feel a new generation of women artist-writter is coming to life, finally emerging from a boring set of rules about how books should be. Womens illustrating far more than nice children stories, putting their inner worlds in colorful images, opening and using their talents for rich and thoughtful observations of their life.
