I’ll be spending next weekend in Ottawa along with 30 other participants to join the Art Matters discussion and workshop<\/a> (en fran\u00e7ais ici<\/a>), an initiative of the Governor General of Canada:<\/p>\n “On November 3 and 4, Art Matters will focus on film, television broadcasting and the impact of new technologies on creativity and our society. These discussions will explore various forms of emerging technology, such as films for cell phones and the use of video (e.g. on Web sites, blogs and podcasts), and how more accessible tools for creating and disseminating art can encourage citizen expression. Finally, we will look at the power of virtual media and the influence of the imaginary world of video games. (…)<\/p>\n Some thirty participants—producers, artists and academics—will be taking part. As well, the public is invited to share its thoughts on Art Matters by visiting the Citizen Voices<\/a> Web site, which is actively involved in Art Matters through a forum and a blog on creativity and new technology.<\/i>”<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n “Les 3 et 4 novembre, Le Point des arts sera consacr\u00e9 au cin\u00e9ma, \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9diffusion et \u00e0 l’influence des nouvelles technologies sur la cr\u00e9ation et notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Ces rencontres exploreront diverses formes de technologies \u00e9mergentes telles que les films pour t\u00e9l\u00e9phones cellulaires et l’utilisation de vid\u00e9os (sur les sites Web, les blogues et les balados p. ex.) et comment des outils de cr\u00e9ation et de diffusion plus accessibles favorisent l’expression citoyenne. Enfin, nous nous interrogerons sur le pouvoir du virtuel et l’influence de l’imaginaire des jeux vid\u00e9os.<\/p>\n Une trentaine de participants − producteurs, cr\u00e9ateurs et universitaires − seront pr\u00e9sents.
