Zeke asked a report on yesterday’s panel. Here are my thoughts, as you’ll be able to listen to the panel podcast version soon.

At first, it seemed obvious that i was surrounded by what we now call ‘music bloggers’ – hey people, you can now label us : are you a blogger, podcaster, videoblogger, music blogger, new media blogger? hm. I tried to make clear that i am all of the above, but first of all i’m a human being using the web as a medium to share about what moves me, music wise, artwise, technology wise and so on. I may even start an entry on knitting soon, if i feel like.

I am not a journalist, i am a creative person playing, experimenting with creative tools. I am creating a new media, my own one. Its interesting and disturbing.

***

We talked alot about the hype made around ‘mp3 blogs’ – not so my thing. Are mp3 blogs the new Napster? I think so yes, i much prefer creating my own show and comment on the songs than posting single mp3s.

***

Diversity : why is there no one blogging on the culture of and music history? we’ve got so many of these indie rock mp3 blogs, where are the mp3 blogs specialized in jazz, african, or classical music? I think, its a question of time before a certain ‘non internet’ class of people get into the web and use it as a medium. Plus, its not everyone who needs to share about a passion. I think blogging tools are still reserved, and made for, a generation of internet users – something which is not for the 40 + people, yet. The Web still has to grow.

Gonzales’s performance tonite @ pop montreal was a perfect example of reahmicksing. Re-use a church for a music performance, use a screen to project the image of the artist dressed as a monk, performing remixes of 80’s pop songs on a organ (artist who btw could have been anywhere in the world but in mtl). Add to this the fact that this same artist is performing at the back of the church, in a recluse place where the organism usually playing is not supposed to be seen as being the main act.

All mixed up, but how good.

With barely no interaction with the public, but still, all elements where there to capture our attention. Gonzales’s organism talents are obvious, looking like a child playing on his 4 levels keyboard, experimenting for himself, and for an audience who cant see him. Amen.

The festival is almost over and we’re getting a little less sober everyday. Here is a picture of us turning nuts after Toine, soon to be mayor, found the official Pop Montreal bread slice laying in the middle of St-Laurent boulevard at 3am on a saturday nite.

We were just getting out of the Zoobombs show after being refused at the entrance of Island (ex unicorns) at the Academy Club (’but she’s doing the blog and poooodcasting thing‘ Nika told the guy – ‘Yeah, but we are totally sold out, sorry‘).

Earlier, The Most Serence Republic (pod#46) and The Lovely Feathers (pod#44) were first part of Metric at Club soda. Both 2 first act were awesome even if the place was filled by teenagers and was way too asepticized for me – i much prefer seeing bands in small venues. All this into the spirit of Rock, and Roll.

The Dragonnettes (Toronto) opened the Pop Mtl fest yesterday followed by Annie who’s performance was dramatically compromised by the snd system. Let’s hope there will be another venue for the diva in 2006 – she quite deserve it.

Uh oh!
