Hour article about podcasting

Check out an interview with Julien in this week issue of Hour. Not sure i am alright with the quote about me but hey, i’ve got something else to do.

Indie rock and then some from a hip, web-savvy girl who calls the Plateau home

Audio recording device part II

Since the Iriver was not compatible with my powerbook, i have to find another small, handy, cheap but good device to record audio (from live shows and interviews).

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

TV is out too

Hey kids, TV is definitely out. Four Eyed Monsters is one of my favorite vlog – i honestly much prefer watching these guy than turning my cable TV on. What’s wrong?

Blogging gave written medias the worse headaches ever (circa 2002-2003). Podcasting made us realize how commercial radio is poor, and that there is a demand for some new kind of audio content (circa 2004-2005). Video blogging (also called Vlog) is there since some months now, and people are creating pieces that will, or are in fact, directly competing with TV (circa 2006). Changes are to be expected. If i would be a big player in the media industry, i would:

1. stretch and breath deeply;
2. pick up the phone, or google, and quickly get in touch with some uber-geek or someone who ‘gets’ my net generation – the one who barely watch TV, read newspapers or listen to radio – so to explain them what the heck is going on;
3. stretch and breath again, close my eyes and jump in.

Live audio recording

Is the iRiver still a good buy for recording interviews and live shows? I am in need of such cheap device before leaving.

Infos from my listeners

Some national newspaper is doing (yet another) article about podcasting and i need to know the following from my listeners:

1 – Which band(s) did you discovered from my podcast for which you bought something from (cd, itunes, tshirt, show ticket, …)?

2 – Which artist that i played on my show would you say was a life changing experience (ok, or close to be) for you?

You can post your answers as a comment to this post or mail it to me at m-c (at) mcturgeon.com

Women in podcasting

Just as i gave an interview about podcasting this morning, someone pointed me to a Wired article about women in podcasting. Seems like the Portable media expo which took place last week was filled by… men:

“What she found at the conference was a world overwhelmed by male voices and male exhibitors. Malley said she didn’t experience any other incidents she perceived as sexist, but she was nonetheless struck by the dearth of female faces. Just 15 percent of the 2,000 attendees were women (…)

Leighton said he believes the male skew is largely due to the newness of the medium and the fact that many of the most popular podcasts focus on, uh, podcasting.”

Why why why… Are women ‘followers’ in new web technologies? Will this stay like that forever? Looking around, i dont know that much of female podcasters…

Bap tu?

Les auditeurs du podcast de Bandeapart.fm s’identifient, assez rigolo à voir. Question : y a t-il des filles dans la salle?

Podcast listener becomes podcaster

Alex just recorded his third podcast. He was invited by me and Julien when we did the interview for The Gazette in august, and as one of our listener he joined us in the recording of the podcast we did just after the interview (listen to the podcast interview here). In his second podcast he talks about his experience during this interview.

Someone said: Odeo shipped beta Create tools to all existing users today.

At Odeo, we see podcasting as many things. Beyond just being a replacement for radio, it can be a great way to communicate and share within a limited group of people. Today we added a feature that allows you to share your audio with people in your Odeo or email contacts, without putting it in a channel. Also? At the end of this short audio message there’s some information for Odeo members who joined before today.
