My new love

m-c's new love

A 30gig Video Ipod - how suprise i am to use this gadget not only for listening to music anymore, but as a portable device on which i watch my favorites videos and video blogs. It’s my own TV, against the boringness of my TV set.

Oh Angela

German Chancellor to launch podcast

“As the German federal government announced today, Angela Merkel is to start her very own video-podcast. From June 8th on, interested citizens can subscribe to the chancellor’s feed and will be informed about the state of the nation on a weekly basis.”

via wmmna and spiegel online.

German bloggers often complained about germany being so far away on the web 2.0 scene: now they’ll be far advanced with their chancellor being - i think - the first one using video-podcast to reach citizens.

Pod #62! How new web technologies are changing the music industry

in many ways.. but here i concentrate the use of new web technologies such as blogs, podcasts and webspaces like myspace to help the spreading of new music and the uprising of independant artists. This is done following an interview i gave last week to a US based company doing a report on indie musicians using new web technologies to promote their work.

Main points i talk about are the connections created between the consumers and producers, these new relationships created and how these might be shaping a new ‘by faith’ system.

I’ll be on the podcasting panel (workshop 3, Podcasting: Passing Trend or Viable Opportunity for the Music Industry?) on april 19th. Let’s see if i’ll be able to shake hands with the head of Quebec’s biggest media industry, Quebecor, who will be giving the keynote speach following the panels.

Since 1995, ADISQ had been organizing les Rencontres, a get-together of professionals from the Québec recording, entertainment and radio industries.

Every spring, this major gathering provides an opportunity for all the players in these sectors to focus on – and share ideas about – the most relevant matters of the moment: regulatory framework, new technologies, changing business models, etc.

Les Rencontres 2005 will take place on April 19 and 20, 2006 in the Marché Bonsecours Ballroom, in Old Montreal.

TAKEAWAY: Festival of do it your self Media

TAKEAWAY: Festival of do it your self Media Finally a geek workshop for non geeks. Would love to go but i’m afraid with SXSW in the same month this could be a little problematic. Not directly related, i have seen this book in Berlin and it looked quite interesting.

A silent revolution is taking place. More and more people are transforming themselves from media consumers to producers - using the new tools, software and technologies now at their disposal.

From the expanding realm of free and open source software (FLOSS), to peer-to-peer (P2P) distribution and ‘pervasive’ mobile and locative technologies, the possibilities exist as never before to create and disseminate our opinions and experiences through our own media.

TAKEAWAY, the Festival of do it your self Media, will help you to understand what it’s all about and how to take part in the revolution.

Learn – how to make your own mark in new media: create a blog, videolog or podcast; install and use free operating systems; learn about free software; explore ideas for distributing and marketing your work – and how to get paid for it.

Talk - to those who are making the tools and those who are finding new and innovative ways to use them.

Listen – to lectures and panel discussions which will introduce concepts of Free Software, Open Source and the Peer-to-Peer approach in interactive design, learning and teaching.

Discuss – the implications of ‘free’ and P2P culture, changes in the way we create culture and art, and how we will be able to live, and learn, in the new media environment.

29-31 March 2006: @ DANA Centre, Science Museum, 165 Queen’s Gate, South Kensington, London.

Turning podcasting into conversations

People interested in this topic should check out Julien’s blog where he explains the idea behind all this. This project could create a new use of podcasting, creating a real conversation between listeners, thus changing the way podcasting has been used up to today.

New Qc made podcast

So nice, you gotta hear 9 years old John talk about how he learned html and the first computer he used!

The first podcast by Chris and John Campbell where we talk about beginnings such as computers we’ve used, the internet, early audio recording and the first day of school. It’s a casual chat between father and son. The show was recorded on a minidisc recorder in Wolfville, Nova Scotia on December 11, 2005 and was edited on the last day of 2005.

This just remembers me again why love podcasting, why i love the internet and the way it allows people to create all kind of content. This is awesome.

Hour article about podcasting

Check out an interview with Julien in this week issue of Hour. Not sure i am alright with the quote about me but hey, i’ve got something else to do.

Audio recording device part II

Since the Iriver was not compatible with my powerbook, i have to find another small, handy, cheap but good device to record audio (from live shows and interviews).

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

TV is out too

Hey kids, TV is definitely out. Four Eyed Monsters is one of my favorite vlog - i honestly much prefer watching these guy than turning my cable TV on. What’s wrong?

Blogging gave written medias the worse headaches ever (circa 2002-2003). Podcasting made us realize how commercial radio is poor, and that there is a demand for some new kind of audio content (circa 2004-2005). Video blogging (also called Vlog) is there since some months now, and people are creating pieces that will, or are in fact, directly competing with TV (circa 2006). Changes are to be expected. If i would be a big player in the media industry, i would:

1. stretch and breath deeply;
2. pick up the phone, or google, and quickly get in touch with some uber-geek or someone who ‘gets’ my net generation - the one who barely watch TV, read newspapers or listen to radio - so to explain them what the heck is going on;
3. stretch and breath again, close my eyes and jump in.
