Canada’s Most Influential Women in Social Media, i’m in!

Update: Wow. The news came last week, i’m among the 31 people listed as semi finalist as one of Canada’s Most Influential Social Medial Individuals!

* * *

Dear readers! I have been nominated as one of Canada’s Most Influential Women in Social Media, isn’t that fantastic? What an honor, just to be nominated!

You can view the profiles of the 31 women nominated, and then register your vote here!

You must have noticed that this last year have brought a lot of changes in here, meaning, i have tried to leave out everything that could associate me with the words ‘Marketing consultant’ , ‘Geek’, or ‘Podcaster’. This was a wish from me to get out of all etiquette i have been given over the last years – etiquettes which i felt always kept me in a blur, not letting people understand what i am really interested in and who i really am.

My passions are already known by most of you – my deepest wish by using technologies has always been to help people communicate and share together, to help them grow personally and creatively wise. I’ve always believed that helping people communicate with each other online is more important than trying to sell them something.

I did and still believe in authenticity, spontaneity and the personal sharing of our thoughts and stories online to make our world and ourselves better people, and this is where technology can be helpful from my point of view and interests. Never have i been interested in marketing any products online, unless i deeply believed in the product fitting into my values of bringing humanity to its best.

All that to say, i am deeply happy to be nominated as one of Canada’s Most Influential Women in Social Media, even after taking a step back and keeping myself a little on the side track of the fast lane, this to keep closer to the person i really am, online and offline.

A Meidia project at the WebbyAwards

Some news from our official headquarters here at Meidia, some good news for our third year in business: our recent project, CitizenShift, has been honored by the Webby Awards!

“As a result of the superior quantity and quality of sites entered, the 12th Annual Webby Awards recognized sites and teams that demonstrated a standard of excellence.

Our project honored by the Webby Awards

Of the more than 10,000 entries submitted to the 12th Annual Webby Awards, fewer than 15% were distinguished as an Official Honoree. This honor signifies an outstanding caliber of work. Congratulations to all of our Official Honoree selections!”

This is fantastic news for us who’ve been working to our best in the last 3 years, we’re flying real high right now! Congratulations to both teams!

Following this we have to announce that we are in need to fill out our collaborator list. We are looking for experienced, easy, reliable and communicative collaborators for our different projects so please email us if you could fit the following:

- Drupal theming, CSS developer
- Responsible of promotion, help in strategy & branding (this is the fun part we know, but we’re busy somewhere else, blogging i guess).

News from Meïdia

We just updated the Meïdia Studio website with some news (nouvelles en français ici) announcing our latest realizations, CITIZENShift and its sister site in french, Parole Citoyenne, which were both launched in beta last December.

CITIZENShift Parole Citoyenne

Both sites are interactive platforms where people can explore social issues through films, photography, articles, blogs and podcasts – spaces for everyone to engage with other activists and creative people, and to share media content. Meïdia was responsible for creating the concept along with CITIZENShift and Parole Citoyenne’s team, graphic design, development and integration of the backend, testing and quality assurance of both platforms.

Over the last months we’ve also worked with Passeport Santé, bringing to life their podcasting project, we’ve supported Alternatives’s youth internship programs with our workshops about web publishing tools, and a new website coming soon for Codes d’accès. We also contributed to a chapter of the book Pourquoi Bloguer dans un contexte d’affaires, and m-c self-published her first book, First Thoughts on life, blogging, and the creative process. Whew!

We are now back from a trip in Berlin, a trip in which we explored what was happening technology wise in Europe, so that we can better perform in the projects we create here. About what 2008 will bring our way, we can’t predict exactly (we still do not have this talent!), but as Meïdia will be 3 years old soon, we feel like our business is entering a more adult stage, one for which we feel better equipped to start on new ventures. You’ll get to hear about this on our respective blogs.

On this, looking forward to meet you on our new adventures!

meïdia is now 2 years old!

After many (MANY!) experiences, leaving the 9 to 5 world, jumping into the unknown, learning to listen to my intuitions in all business aspect, meeting different collaborators and clients, trying to integrate artsy ideas in commercial projects, looking to find my own way (and finding a partner on the way), start to earn a living doing what i want – 24 months have gone, and all this is still growing. I feel like i planted seeds, and after much work and taking care of the seeds, something is coming out. I can now look at it, and give it direction.

This whole business thing is completely organic, and we are now gardeners, using our creativity to create the garden we are dreaming of!

Mass media vs. niche media: the end of the one to many era, a new start for traditional media

I know i am not the best blogger these days, tending to prefer enjoying the sun on my balcony instead of sharing thoughts on the wild wild web. Still, things are moving and we’re working quite a lot. Here is a document we worked on in the last days.

The focus of traditional mass media has to change: traditional media should not only produce and distribute content via traditional and new media channels, they now have to become lively platforms where people will be given a voice and the tools to communicate and produce media content.

In 2006 the role of traditional media is to be a guide for people, and not a mere one to many marketing machine.
