Power women
“… women in low- and middle-income nations were found to be more than twice as likely to be involved in early-stage business start-ups as those in high-income nations”
Why this? Are these women better than us at leaving their comfort zone, at handling risk and insecurity?
“In Russia, women were involved in 39.9 percent of all early-stage entrepreneurial activity, while in the Philippines they were involved in 22.5 percent, the study found. That compares to just 2.3 percent in Sweden and 1 percent in Belgium.
Overall, about a third of the world’s entrepreneurial activity is driven by women, the study found.”

This week’s poll
is about multi-tasking - how do you manage it to drive your creative life with the right amount of creativity and focus? Let us know! The right amount of creativity and focus
Things just happen, sometimes i believe we are guided to hear or see what we need to in order to trigger something inside us, to shine a light so we can move a little further into clarity.
Just as i was about to leave for lunch, i found this quote by David Allen:
“A single focus is infinitely more productive than a split one.”
As it often happens, i am now writing this post in the middle of doing 3 other things - half sited on my seat, excited about what i want to share with you, keeping in mind that i am starving and need to do this quickly.
Since a week i am into reflecting about the many projects i want to bring to life, readjusting my personal objectives and goals for each of these projects, trying to see where is it that i get confused and disoriented.
Having many projects on the table simultaneously is not an easy task, some people can, others cannot, and i am into trying to find the right balance in having just enough of what i need to make each project grow while feeling stimulated and excited, and at the same time finding my way to keep a crystal-clear focus, so to avoid to feel overwhelmed by all the tasks needed to make each project grow.
How?
This i think will be a great topic to discuss with other creatives, now on this blog, and also around a table at the next Creacamp. I decided to tag 5 of my favorite creatives to get to know their secret:
“How can you, as a creative person, find the right balance in doing many projects simultaneously? How do you manage to complete many projects while keeping a healthy body and mind?”
I tag Guylaine, Luce, Ana, Kate, and Christine from Sparkeltopia.
Christine’s answers are here:
(…) I prefer to work on many projects at once because it keeps me energized and also because I am a firm believer in walking away from something when I get stuck and/or frustrated.
(…) the main way I create more balance in my life on a day to day basis is through friends. I plan a lot of lunch dates, have regular phone calls with people and also keep in close contact through emails and blogs. I am also passionate about travel, and getting completely out of my comfort zone always energizes, inspires and excites me.
(…) What I’ve decided to do are basically let go of certain projects even though I love them dearly. The questions I asked myself were:
- Does this project bring me happiness
- Can someone help me carry this project or can I pass it on to someone else completely
- Is this project worth it in terms of time spent vs. monetary retribution (notice that money is third here)
I figured that if a project was getting 2 checks out of three, I would consider letting it go. I also allowed myself 1 project that I could choose to keep even though it had 2 or 3 strikes. Working in this way, I eliminated 25% of the projects that I was heading and so, was able to recuperate 25% more time for myself.
How I’m going to use this time is entirely up to me, but one rule is that it has to be fun and not related to work (at least, not primarily). This includes: doing more Yoga classes and practicing more sports, watching non-documentary movies, reading non-business books, hosting dinner parties and going out to experience culture or just to dance.
Clever she is, when she clearly mentions non-documentary movies and non-business books - how often did i try to relax, this buy reading a super brainy business book, or watching a documentary movie where my brain could just not be off? Thanks Luce!

Is Google everyone’s darling?
An Austrian journalist is criticizing Google and its business practices since a while now. At the end of 2007 he published a document with the title “Report on dangers and opportunities posed by large search engines, particularly Google” (pdf download). The blogosphere was reacting strongly against this document since Google seems to be everyone’s darling (who is not using it on a daily basis?).
Now he published a book called “Die Google Falle” (”The Google trap”) where he is writing about how Google is actively supporting censorship in China and about their data mining (data gathering) practices. And just recently Google share holders asked for a statement by the company concerning human rights and censorship. It looks like that pressure on Google from the public is growing.

In my opinion it is important that there are people who analyze and criticize mainstream online services like Google or others - just to keep the balance! Because these public companies are exposed to huge pressure from share holders which demand constant growth and profit. It is understandable that they will do everything to meet the expectations.
