NYC, a daily chaos going on 24-7

New York city is stunning. But not all of it is good.

I love the diversity, i love to see so many cultures mixed together, and all the different styles. The trashy, the ugly and the stylish all combined together creates some kind of a modern mosaic, a city standing on workarounds. No wonder so many artists are living there, there is enough in NYC to inspire me for the next 10 years, observing and questioning life there, filling a sketchbook a day with observations, videos, pictures.

New York is a city of extremes, between riches and poor, each dancing around Manhattan, sharing parts of it. An extreme where advertising is everywhere, where every wall has something for you to buy. People there seem to work only to be able to shop for clothes and hang out in trendy places, maximum consumption seems to be why people are working and living. With people consuming so much, the streets of NYC are constantly filled with trash. Sadly, Manhattan itself must create an island of trash every day. NYC city is a pure chaos when its about cars, and the noise these vehicle create is just impossible to live with – that is maybe why most new yorkers are walking with an ipod.

In a city where are living so many souls, everyone seem to be lonely. People walk around talking to their phone most of the time, like if they just could not stand being alone.

I think new yorkers are just extremely tolerant people, something i could not be. They tolerate the noise, the trash, the loneliness, the pollution, the cost of living there, and the busyness in every corner of town.

They seem to have found their place in a vibrant, colorful daily chaos going on 24-7. I will still be an observer there, this daily chaos is not for everyone.

New Toy: nokia N80

My boyfriend now says he used to have a girlfriend. This little new toy has been much waited for, and i was quite happy to leave my camera and ipod at home when i left for New York.

This said, i walked through the streets of New York listening to music (and hey, if someone calls the music just stop and the little robot tells me who is calling!), taking pictures and videos, feeling light, with only this small metallic box in my pocket.

Not so sexy design-wise, many flaws i know, but i could not wait another 6 months to get the N800.

Now i wonder, really wonder, how will citizen media look like when we’ll all have such device, made for everyone to create and publish multimedia short stories.

Support “Google Will Eat Itself”

The art project GWEI (= Google Will Eat Itself) has been fully censored by Google, which means it has been removed from all Google Search-Indexes worldwide.

The idea behind GWEI is simple:

Google Will Eat Itself generates money by serving Google text advertisments on a network of hidden Websites. With this money GWEI automatically buy Google shares. GWEI buys Google via their own advertisment. Google eats itself Рbut in the end “we” own it. By establishing this autocannibalistic model we deconstruct the new global advertisment mechanisms by rendering them into a surreal click-based economic model. After this process GWEI hands over the common ownership of “our” Google Shares to the GTTP Ltd. [Google To The People Public Company] which distributes them back to the users (clickers) / public.

Let’s break the silence and put a link to this project on our sites and blogs: http://www.gwei.org. Give Google back to people! GWEI is an interesting case how to imagine a new global public sphere. How to reverse privatization and rethink a truely public Internet without the Googles and Yahoos.

la créativité n’a pas de limite, la récupération non plus. ici, des jouets refaits par des enfants à partir de morceaux de jouets probablement brisés. wow. les vieux “transformers” et héros n’ont qu’à aller se rhabiller!
derrière chaque image de la galerie s’en cachent environ une centaine d’autres. impressionnant.
on raconte toute l’histoire du projet ici. ce happening a commencé en 2001 et se donne par atelier “toy-rific”, sur place, à cincinnati.

Que vienne le vote

Je suis en plein rattrapage des nouvelles de la dernière semaine, et continue de peser le pour et le contre des différents partis afin de pouvoir placer mon vote en bonne conscience le 26.

Plus je lis, écoute, et regarde les 3 principaux candidats et plus je suis découragée par l’idée qu’encore une fois, je devrai peut-être voter pour le moins pire, et non pour le meilleur.

Aucuns des 3 chefs ne me donnent confiance. Leur guéguerres et jambette n’ont rien de rassurant. Mettez-les dans une arène quant à ça, qu’on voit leurs gros bras.

Lentement mais sûrement.
Bientôt nous serons beaucoup plus nombreux à utiliser le web pour communiquer, et je crois que nous verrons dans les prochaines années l’ascension lente, mais graduelle des plus petits partis comme Québec Solidaire qui prendront leur place, avec coeur, intégrité, et des valeurs bien placées, en restant propre à ce qu’ils sont, sans essayer de manipuler l’opinion publique par des campagnes de marketing web bien mal placées, ou bien encore une fois, en fesant de belles jambettes et autres pirouettes pour nous en mettre pleins la vue. Pour toutes ces raisons, mon vote ira sûrement à Québec Solidaire, car ils sont les seuls qui ont su sonner vrai à mes oreilles.

De retour de NewYork, à peine le temps de souffler, défaire ma valise. J’ai plein de choses à écrire, de retour dès que j’aurai repris mon souffle!

Musique Locale : LVÉAM + Gatineau

Le Volume Était Au Maximum repart en neuf. Retour à une distribution indépendante, départ de Catherine Love-City (clavier) et Joakim City (batterie), arrivée de Max Télévision (batterie). Il s’offre le temple de la fugueuse (ben non, c’est moi qui m’en viens trop vieux) avec les sympathiques Les Prostiputes.

Enfin, après avoir passé l’hiver à farfouiller dans leurs vieilles cassettes TDK SA 60 minutes, Gatineau nous ont extirpé L’IntégraLLL, pour nous le balancer sur nos visages. Le lancement du EP indépendant (5 titres, 500 copies, 3 couleurs différentes) du groupe se fera en compagnie des amaricains Sontiago et Bleubird. Si c’est bon pour moé, c’est bon pour toé.
