Le Spectrum contre un BestBuy

lu dans mon inbox.

Bonjour,

Bloggers worth

Bloggers beware! Here is an email conversation i had over the last week, with yet another agency trying to hit on Quebec bloggers to freely advertise and test a product.

This is not the first time, and not the last time it happens, but this one was a little to much to keep for myself.

Mail 1. Names have been hidden on purpose.

From: S.

Subject: Invitation: Looking for Feedback on new site to Broadcast Live on Internet
Importance: High

Hi Marie-Chantale,

(…) is looking for a select group of influential bloggers to join its advisory board for xxx. Basically, xxx is similar to YouTube, only it is exclusively Canadian content, it is broadcast in real time and none of the content is archived. We thought you might be interested because you are really in tune with the Web 2.0 movement, and this would be a really cool project for you to get involved in.

We want to find out what you like, what we could do better, differently, etc., and what new functionality you would like to see. If you’re interested, this is how it would work:

Visit www.xxx.ca and register yourself for an account to broadcast your show. Send me your username and your contact information, and we’ll send you a web cam to get started. We will touch base sometime in January to get your feedback on the site.

If you want to get involved, just let me know. Any questions, you can call or email me. My details are below.

Cheers,
S.

Mail 2.

Hi Marie-Chantale,

I wanted to know if you were interested in participating in our advisory council. I realize that you may not be interested in video broadcasting but if you are curious, let me know. We would really love to know what you think about the site and how we could make it better.

Best,
S.

My answer.

Hello S.,

i did not answer your previous mail, but yes i received it.

Here are the reasons why i did not answer, you can forward my email to the person who got the brilliant idea to contact bloggers for your project :

1- bloggers are not free workers, testing web product for free. We’ve got a life.
2- i guess the goal here was to have people talking about your new product over the blogosphere – bloggers are unfortunately not free advertising boards…

and 3, when saying ‘…i realize that you may not be interested in video broadcasting‘… you cannot blindly contact people asking them to do free work for you, not even getting to know who are these people you are contacting. We have a video broadcasting platform online since a year, the first one in Canada, probably your team even got inspired by it.

Sorry about the rudeness of my email, but i had to speak my mind.

m-c

I got an apologies email which i wont publish.

Making up for Ironik

My job as Bluetracks.ca cofounder is to grow our business ‚Äì with very little resources ‚Äì and with the tools I have at hand. Our programmer had developed a simple tool that allowed me to send Bluetracks Bulletin in which I would give some news but mostly give visibility to certain artists and free songs to people. Just before Christmas, the Bulletin sending tool was updated ‚Äúto be better that ever‚Äù and our last Bulletin of the year never got out. It just did not work. I tried not to cry over the matter and just keep it cool, saying that there was nothing I could do but wait until the tool was debugged (now, our programmer just had his first baby so it won’t get fixed very promptly). The thing is that I felt bad for the artist that I was promoting in that issue as his song was the perfect song to give away at the end of the year. To make up for this mishap, here it is for you to download if you wish ‚Äì It’s hip hop/rap in French and the artist name is Ironik:

2006 – Ironik

Have a great 2007!

feuilleter des carnets d’artistes en ligne

si vous dessinez ou écrivez le moindrement, vous connaissez sûrement les carnets moleskine (disponibles dans toutes boutiques de matériel d’artiste, librairies, etc).

carnets moleskine

You dont need this

sticker

Consuming consuming consuming.

Sunday afternoon, seeing the shopping centers full of parked cars. Full of people with a dull life, having nothing else to do then consume.

Cars, gadget, kids toys, implants, diets, clothes, food, another TV, radio, video, jewels, makeup, dishes, electronics – spending money to fill the gap.

How often i told myself ‘they dont need this’ but they dont know it… Maybe we should help them remember…

Download or order the stickers on the Anti-Advertising Agency website.

A meaning-full week

Knödel makingKnödel making, the table
Knödel eatingHm, i saw that!

As we sat yesterday nite, our bellies full after Chris’s austrian cooking session, i realized that this first week of january 2007 has been exactly as i wished 2007 to be, my new year resolutions being in perfect alignment with this first week of the year.

Resolutions were:

- spending more time with friends: done, had 2 dinners with friends + a breakfast
- taking more time for myself: done, i’ve spent more time writing, blogging and walking around in a week than i did in 3 months
- getting back to my pencils: done, the collages project with Guylaine is getting nicer all the time
- relaxing: done, baths, massages and walks, movie watching
- do work that i love: of course, like everyone who’s got a business running i had to work in this first week of the year – but in all it went quite well and this new year should be as prosperous as 2006. done.

ps: Chris cooked austrian Knödel. Who’s comming home next?

6×6 Collages

View the Slideshow here, join the group here.

I wrote some months ago about a new project me and Guylaine started.

Over the past 3 months, we’ve be meeting once a month to exchange material which consisted of :
- 6 sheets to use for the collage
- some material which must be used in the collage

From this, we each created 6×6 pieces using the material given by the other. The result is that we each create 6 6×6 pieces each month which we’ll use later to create one or 2 collages from all these pieces. Here are some of the result.

We are looking for ways where people could contribute, maybe by sending their own 6×6 collages in the flickr group? We are open to suggestions.
