Hello? someone there?

LOS ANGELES–Jazz composer Maria Schneider took home a Grammy on Sunday for her album “Concert in the Garden,” without selling a single copy in a record store.

Schneider, 44, financed her Grammy-winning album through an Internet-based music delivery service called ArtistShare that opens the financing of production to dedicated fans.

Music labels, hello? Are you there?

How to maximise client meetings when you’ve got less than 4hrs sleep the nite before

This i should be able to tell you by the end of the day.

*

19h06 pm. I’ve managed to make it trough the day. Here’s how:

- have a coffee just before the meeting. You’ll either have a major crash down or will be on a high;
- wish for the second option above to happen;
- if the meeting is about to last more than an hour (as in my case), try to have the two following options available to you: have a chair to sit on for short time span – have a wall to lean on when you stand up so that you dont fall off;
- try watching people in the eyes, that is the only way to avoid your mind leaving your body for a better world where you could be sleeping;

and at last, shower your mind with the following sentence over and over ’till you really feel it: ‘I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO AWAKE IN MY WHOLE LIFE’. However, be careful to keep this sentence in your mind and not to let it go out of your mouth – this could be hell scary.

All of the above was tested and proved to be successful.

Some things just happen

The Kings of Convenience show was f*g awesome,
it was like having them playing at my place.

I had the chance to spend the evening watching them live,
and then had a drink & chat with them and friends’till 3am.

Some things just happen.

*

Six Apart’s new outfit

Six Apart, the team which at the start consisted of couple Mena and Ben Trott, creators of Movable Type, Typepad and recent acqueror of LiveJournal, have launched today a redesign of the company’s website.

The new design is slick, but putting myself into newbies shoes i wouldn’t exactly know where to start from – i do feel lost into the multiple boxes that are floating all around. Many small details were left out: non aliased round corners does hurt.

With offices in the US, Europe and Japan, counting Neoteny and August Capital as main investors, could it be that Six Apart is suffering from growing too fast?

Anyways, they are still much of an inspiration to me. We just CANT always be right – things must move on.

* read about the Six Apart redesign;

Proposal to music labels

Thx to everyone for the input about my request to music labels.

I will put this down openly since i believe i will get a maximum of input that way.

Upon recommendation, i will be contacting music labels directly to get some kind of ‘authorization’ to play their bands music on my podcast.

I am listing the points for which i think my podcast could be beneficial to these labels, and i am much open to discuss the issues about how small labels can benefit from online radio shows.

Some of my questions to you are :

- Would listeners buy for online music, be it available as mp3?
For this, we would need to have all kind of music available online. Right now, and i hope it will change, mp3′s available trough iTune are really only commercial stuff. I did found some good stuff (Mylo, dj kicks etc.) on mp3.com, but it’s only available in the US. The cd era is mostly over we gotta figure out what’s next.

- We’ve got the technology to make online radio available to mostly anyone. How can small labels benefit from this?
Should labels sell their music in mp3 format directly on their websites? This does reduce production and distribution costs, and reduce the waiting time for a record to be available (think about the new daftpunk stuff that is already all over the p2p networks more than a month prior to the release).

- Should listeners pay for their favorite podcasts?

So here is the proposal, let me know what ya think. I am curious to see how this idea can evolve with our sharing about the topic.
