The experience itself is worth it.
Every day I relive at least 3 mistakes I made in the past. Painful ones sometimes. The kind of mistakes that make you almost yell out loud, because the memory of them, la honte, is so powerful.
But if I hadn’t made those mistakes I wouldn’t be who I am today. If I hadn’t made those mistakes I wouldn’t have made important discoveries, and made subsequent choices that led to richer and more interesting experiences than just drifting along.
Making mistakes and failing, are the key to growth. You see how people who have never had to experience failure or pain turn out? They are like children; they don’t learn. Equally, people who try to control everything to avoid failure do not grow, because they are trapped by fear.
Terms like “good, better and perfect” really depend on their context. If creative expression / exploration is central to your life, you have to allow for, even encourage, failure, because it helps you get closer to success. (It’s a radical idea, particularly when applied to business, but it’s equally true there.)
Keith Johnstone, the father of the Impro / Theatresports tradition, wrote that “we all have to make our first 1000 mistakes” before we get a grip on what it is we are doing.
In the end, only you can judge if it lives up to the original vision. Your audience will let you know if you were successful in communicating that vision or not. So don’t worry!
I dont pod cast. but i know about doing things. And fear is never allowed to blur my way. It is either stupidity or vision. But it seams to work for me. Anyway, i gave up about wanting people to like me all the time: it got me paranoid and I know I dont want to get back there.
So go! the important thing is to have fun. I mean it.
