Well, it isn’t really a generation, it is more a mindset and way of working - but answer the five questions below to find out:

1. Do you wear a computer?
(…) So ask yourself - how often do you get further than a room’s distance from your cell phone? Do you always take the cell phone with you when you go out? Do you use your phone as more than a communication device - do you use it to search for information, find out where you are, check out the closest restaurant, take digital pictures, play games? Do you essentially wear a computer most of the time?

2. Do you text?
Are you a member of the “thumb tribe” -do you use your cell phone to send and receive text messages?

– yes

3. Are you wacky when you’re not wified?
Do you seldom go to meetings any more without your laptop/PDA? Is looking for a wireless connection one of the first things that you do when you sit down at a conference, meeting, workspace? Members of the smart mob generation want to be constantly connected, they love swimming in that pervasive sea of communication, content, collaboration and computing - being simultaneously and continuously connected to others and to the network is part of their opreating landscape.

4. Have you have turned some of your “remembering” over to a technology object?
Can you still remember all the phone numbers you regularly use, or does your phone do that remembering for you? Does your phone call you to remind you of a meeting or other scheduled event? Does it feel like you’ve offloaded some of your lower order cognitive processes to technology? For example, can you still compose a paper in long-hand, or do you need to computer screen in front of you? (…)

– hm. I still use paper most of the time, to take notes and schematize ideas - and my agenda is, and will still be, on paper.

5. Do you participate in online reputation systems? Have you ever joined a virtual social network or Friend of a Friend network like [Friendster], [LinkedIn], [Tribe.net], [orkut],[Flickr], [Eliyon] or even the campus-based version, [Thefacebook]?

– well, yes, ok!

I am indeed, a member of the smart mob generation - no doubt. These are really interesting time to be alive, there is so much to learn and i feel there is still so much to be created - possibilities are expanding at an impressive speed. This is what i tried to express in this entry, as a member of this smart generation:

Recording on your ipod?

Seems to be true:

“apple cripples recording on an ipod so belkin and griffin then have to sell us add-on devices for over $50 that can only record at 8khz, which is all pretty shitty. apparently (the rumor is) apple does this so people don’t use their ipods to record stuff they think we shouldn’t, like concerts, whatever.”

For those who are not subscribed yet, here are some screenshots of the website. Really basic but i believe this is gonna work out:

- list screen, features your last picts on flikr, blog and website url, rss feed link,
- home screen, features last entries, most popular and new goals
- the team goal screen (do this as a team - which is cool but will it be used?)

Missing:
- easy implementation of the list on my blog,
- past and realized goals (with a big ‘done’ X!) - done, i’ve just seen it
- link to other users who previously had the same goal and have realized it (and the how, when) -ooops, i’ve just seen it’s there through the ‘people who’ve done this’ - great job guys

Podcasting on osX - microphones

I’m currently working on making a little more professional setup - seems like the line in microphone on the pb g4 disappoint most people who thought like me, that plugging a mic into it would be easy and give a crisp and clear voice recording.

What happen is that the sound is not perceptible using a standard microphone in the pb line-in.

I have read that a usb mic could do the job (also here) instead of a standard microphone.

As it is, the imic is much talked about, since it’s an audio adapter, any standard mic should fit on or it can be used directly as a mic.

Any thoughts or hint welcome.

Using the t610 as remote control on osX

Some more geek stuff: i just installed Romeo on my sony ericsson T610 - blown away.

I got my first experience synchronizing the phone with bluetooth 2 weeks ago, and now i can use it as a remote control for my computer since everything is connected to it, tv and snd system, at the other end of my flat, about 9 meters away.

This freeware application allows you remote control of your mac via Bluetooth and a compatible mobile device (Ericsson t39m, t68, t610, t616 and Palm and Nokia 3650/7650 via Veta Universal), controlling programs such as iTunes and DVD Player, as well as presentation applications. As well as being able to create your own menus you can use the phone as a mouse for control of anything and everything.

whats wrong with my ipod?

hum oh.. Having some trouble mounting the ipod - since today, it doesnt mount on my desktop and in itune. I have stfw, deleted preferences and logged out, didnt worked. Any thoughts?

Podcasting in a year

Really interesting post from Hugo:

In 1 year, Podcasting will:

- Deliver standard radio shows.
- Deliver (short) messages to groups of friends, colleagues, family, members of a club, etc.
- Distribute syndicated radio program items to ‘real’ radio stations.
- Deliver video clips.
- Deliver status updates.
- Capture meetings and distribute it to interested parties.
- Distribute class lectures to all students. (Except for those who were absent ;) - Distribute demo songs.
- Distribute political/ campaign speeches.
- Deliver content to regular over-the-air radio shows!
   (Perhaps coupled with a ’smart’ playlist system.)
- Be a tool for an adventure game.

- Do something nobody has thought of.

Back in da big town

Je suis reviendu comme on dit. Mes chats on fait un massacre avec l’appart, ils ont pas mal garochés par terre tout ce qu’ils pouvaient, et la table de salon a été changée de place.

(oui oui, ce sont des chats, pas des singes…)

fô que je vous l’écrive ici, maudit qu’on est bien à mtl - mon trip en région m’a fait du bien, mais pas besoin de vous écrire combien je suis contente d’être à la maison.

Le temps de défaire mes bagages et je fais mes plans pour la semaine. Glissade, patin, restos, bière, fô en profiter!

La vie en région - 2

2ième journée dans la capitale de la poutine - et qu’elle était bonne ce soir, la banquise peut aller se rassoir, ya rien qui bât la poutine d’ici.

Parmis les faits divers observés, je rapporte entre autre les stations de radios commerciales : poche, mais tellement poche! Tant qu’à ca, j’aime mieu me chanter les derniers hits dans ma tête. Quand je vois le lecteur cassette dans l’auto de ma mère (oui oui, des cassettes!!) je me dit que les choses changent bien vite.. reste que ca règle pas mon problème, et faute d’endurer le silence je zap entre les stations fm dans l’espoir de trouver qqchose de potable, ce qui arrive pas.

Et puis la télé. Le nombre de publicités télé frolant la catastrophe ne se calculent plus - après une heure de télé j’en pouvais plus de voir de la grosse typo helvetica black avec drop shadow qui bouge dans tout les sens.

Fait réjouissant ici, le petit zachari, qui a même pas 4 ans encore et qui me demande au moment de s’en aller : “Les photos que tu as prises de moi, tu vas tu me les envoyer par email? moi en tout cas je vais t’en envoyer pleins!!”

Trop cute.

La vie en région

Ok, unpeu plus de 24hrs que j’y suis. Dabord trois-rivières hier, et aujourd’hui je me retrouve à la campagne, environ 10 minutes de victoriaville, de l’autre coté des appalaches, dans les montagnes.

Bon, je vous jouerai pas du violon en vous écrivant que tout est super, que le grand air me fait le plus grand bien et que sortir de la ville a fait de moi une fille nouvelle. Au contraire, le choc a été tel que prévus, chaque fois que j’arrive en région je me cherche et pis ben, j’me trouve pas.

Le plus difficile est passé, les 24 premières heures. Je suis pas mal fière de moi. Même antoine m’a appelé pour aller prendre une bière en ville (ce qui nous laisse le choix entre l’évasion, le shad café et le vieux st-pierre) et j’ai refusé. En fait, c’est que j’ai pas pu rentrer la voiture dans la cour glacée, ya fallu que mon père sorte m’aider, ca peut vous donner une idée de quoi j’aurais eu l’air pour une sortie en ville. Je suis donc ici, pis je me dis que finalement cé pas si pire que ca (vous allez comprende en voyant mon setup - faut dire que ca aide unpeu).

Merde, je suis pognée avec une connection modem 56k. Si je pouvais, je vous podcasterais un mix d’akufen - j’écoute ça dans l’tapis, ca fait 2 soirs que je m’endors avec ca - moi et mon ipod, une intimitée à vous faire fondre d’envie.

La région, c’est le culte de la propreté - m’semble que tout l’mondre trippent sur le ménage pas normal. Mon frêre en revient pas des usages multiples que j’ai trouvé au papier de toilette. Moi je fais tout avec ca, pas besoins de mouchoirs et d’essuis-tout, le papier de toilette c’est pratique et économique. Ici ils ont tout - 36 sortes de nettoyants divers, 2 balayeuses différentes et tout les ostie d’outils qui ont chacuns une fonction très spécifique sans parler des 5 télécommandes qui gèrent le cinéma maison.

Mon frêre savait pas trop quoi m’acheter comme cadeau - ma simplicité volontaire involontaire l’embête unpeu. Mais bon, pour ce qui est des gadgets techno, là on se ratrape.

Quoi dire de plus sur les régions sans faire du bitchage facile… Heille, mon récit de vie en région va battre le carnet de voyage d’alex cé sur. Ya tellement de faits exotiques à rapporter de la vie en région, j’ai un fait divers que je pourrais vous poster aux 5 minutes, m’semble que tout est tout sauf normal.
