Weekly obsession: Keane

A little more of it. Just a little. One more song.

I have been listening to Keane’s album on and on since 3 days, and it is of course, this week obsession:

From their debut album Hopes and Fears, a blend of sumptuous and catchy melodies along with poignant verses. If you liked Travis, Radiohead – the bends, you might enjoy their music as much as i.

Dating in 2004

Me and my new chumé have now shared enough saliva to go to the next step:
playing ‘everything and anything you wanna know about (lover’s name here)‘.

Type of question that could be used for the game are (you can also invent your own ones, be imaginative):

- why did you moved over here?
- last girlfriend (if and when, how long did it last, why did it ended)?
- tastes (music, food, favorite places, travels, readings, etc.)
- how does he spend time (beside being with you)?
and, the last but not the least,
- is he dating other people (girls/boys/pets) other than you?

Switch, it’s now your turn to answer questions.

There aren’t good or bad answers, but check out for the level of honesty in your partner’s eyes. This might reveal some things you’d better be careful with.

Good luck.

p.s: he keeps telling me that he isn’t reading my blog.

Obsession and new work

notitleAs you can see here, something close to be called an obsession is going on with Keane’s debut album.

Otherwise, i am about to finish a new painting. There’s no name for it yet.

I have several new pieces that aren’t online yet, this is because i am working on a new portfolio and i also prefer to spend time drawing and painting than updating my website. There should be about 10 new pieces, paintings and drawings, online in the next weeks. Stay tuned.

Under electric light’s performance

At Missy Bar on september 31th 2004.

This was dan’s first live performance under the name Under electric light. Earlier collaborations where with friend and roomate Adam (from Sabola) and workmate Mathieu Rodier (guitars) as first part for Vitamines for you.

We were a pretty receptive crowd, all expecting a great time between friends, eager to hear dan’s new stuff with live bass and guitars.

The boys did more than entertain us, they actually blew our socks off by the simplicity of well calculated bass and guitar lines over dan’s emotional electro beats tracks and strong melodies.

This isn’t just the beginning. They’re gonna rule the world someday, i am convinced.

Pictures and short videos of the show can be found right here.

Conversation

About the upcoming Flash in the can, which will be held this october:
In John Maeda’s new upcoming book “Creative Code” published by Thames and Hudson (rel. 2004) I was given the opportunity to write an essay in the chapter addressing “dynamic abstraction”.

In my session, I’ll be showing how the work was created on once-upon-a-forest.com using this idea of dynamic abstraction.

Fundamentally, art/design has been taught as very static process… executing style/method and arriving at an end result. I prefer to write programs (or machines, as I like to call them)… and it’s these programs that generate the compositions for me. With this method, the end result is never static; making room for as many anomalies as possible, every composition generated by the programs I write is unique to itself. I program the “brushes,” the “paints,” the “strokes,” the rules and the boundaries. However it is the machine that creates the compositions — the programs draw themselves.

stay tuned.
