I ponder the meaning of ennui all the time (in a way I do that to escape “ennui”), and I’m not too keen on what the buddhists say but to me to “do nothing” is anxiety…and anxiety is when the “being” is revealed…Bataille said “Anxiety-the absolute sovereign” and I tend to think along those lines…when you strip away everything and all you have is the mind and itself…it’s almost like “Facing your death” and the fact you’re alive creates this anxiety (“must do something”)…that’s why I’ve always been fascinated with monks and how they can actually “do nothing”…the closest I get to “Doing nothing” is pondering the meaning of Nothing…(and it’s not so happy thoughts!)
