The right amount of time

Well, nothing really special, thats why i kept quiet in the last days. I am really busy right now with a 4 days/week freelance contract, trying to update my portfolio, and trying to build up the new unitedsituation website.

Why am i always running against time? Even when i stopped to work, i didnt had enough time. When i had enough time, then i was not really using this time. Looks like i have a problem here…

That’s why i included the brian eno quote in this month’s newsletter (Quote was a definition of well-being by brian eno, “having just the right amount of time”)
I think having too much free time is somehow not helping me.
Knowing that i will not have all the time i would like to have keeps me pushing myself to realize my goals and kick my ass because its the only time i have to do so. I call this self pressure.

On the other side, having too less time is for me really stressy. I get totally anxious and stressed out just at the idea that the next 2 days are fully “booked”. I need an empty agenda, with more free time than busy time. Thanks god, i think i have some kind of balance right now, but i always feel on the edge of not having enough.

So, with all that in mind, i tried to spend a “as relax as possible” weekend. Well, i didnt really had the choice since i was totally brain dead from the last 2 weeks of work and keeping up personal projects.

Still, after 2 weeks of rain, we got a super sunny weekend, and i had to go out for a ride thru hamburg. I took some pictures, some sun, and some time to enjoy life, something i think we often forget to do…

There is the newsletter sent on july 22th 2002.
Its never too late to subscribe!

When I ride my bike, i often discover new places and this makes me feel alive.

~~~ What makes you feel alive? ~~~
Monthly quote
Definition of what is wellbeing, from Brian Eno, Musician:
“Having just the right amount of time”
(Quote found in an old issue of Bare magazine.
Recycling old magazines is a good idea!)
What’s new?
Lots of things!
*First, this newsletter! I will try to let you know, as shortly as i can,
what’s going on with the projects i am working on, and of course i will
try to share a bit of what inspires me…
I hope this newsletter can put some sun in your day!
* Second news, CreativeDay (http://creativeday.unitedsituation.de)
was mentioned in Sark’s June e-letter! A lot of people are contributing
to the site everyday, sharing about what inspire them, what is creativity
for them, etc. I also receive lots of e-mail from people saying how
reading other peoples interviews inspired them! If you haven’t
filled out your interview yet you can still do it now!
*Also, i finally have some merchandising online!
For now you can get high quality copies of my illustrations for
25 Euro (US $29 outside Europe), including shipping cost.
I also just designed limited edition mousepads and mugs of
‘Traveling Dreamer In New York’, more products will join later on.
More infos in the shop section,
Things i am working on
* Doing less and take more time just to “be”… and this is quite difficult!
* Updating CreativeDay
There will now be a feature interview every month. Would you like to
suggest someone? Someone who inspire you, someone who make you feel
life is worth living every second? Let me know!
* I am also updating my weblog from time to time with daily thoughts,
ideas, inspiring books, websites, etc. It is a constant experiment and also
a nice toy (i meant tool :)!
Things i would like to do
* Travel travel travel! Meet new people and share!
* Paint and draw more
* Inspire more people to live their dreams
* Relax and have trust that there is enough time.
Things i am too afraid to do
* Travel alone
* Speaking German
* Be myself, everyday in every situation.
A gift for you,
my *Sparkling August* calendar page!
Get ready for August! I just finished my August’s “easy to live with”
calendar, free and ready for you to download & print out.
I first did the calendar page for my personal use, since i can never
find a agenda that fits to my needs, and decided to share it online.
Lets see if the world will look less serious in august.. ;)
The page is not like a usual agenda, i haven’t displayed all the days,
because if you are like me, i totally hate to see my agenda crowded
with notes and appointments. I need more free time than working time,
that’s why i only put some fields named “Important Dates” so you can
note the dates you shouldn’t miss. There is also my “monthly quote”,
and a list of “Things I should do” and “Things i would like to do”.
Why? because i am learning that happiness lies in following what
we like to do.
Once printed out, the calendar page is 8×11 inch size so it can be
either fixed on a wall near your working area (like i do), or you
can take it with you in a notebook.
The only thing i ask in exchange is for you to let me know if you
use the calendar, and your comments about it! (such as “put more
lines in the “things i would like to do” section!”, or anything else :)
Otherwise share it and enjoy!
The *Sparkling August* calendar page here .
I need your help!
* I am searching for a representative, it would help me if you can
spread my url or let me know if you might know someone who could
represent me!
* You can always buy my illustrations, cups, mouse pads, for you
or as gift, they might put some sun in your life and in the lifes of people
around you!
* Also, please try to be happy! Dont take things too seriously, and
try to do things that you love to do. More happy people we are,
better our world will be :)
I wish you a nice August, and until the next newsletter,
dont be shy to get in touch, i would like to hear from you!
Sunny greetings from Hamburg, Germany,
m-c
Daily wisdom in your inbox
I am receiving the “daily wisdom” meditation tips since more than a year now. You have to try it for yourself, for me these simple quotes often made a difference in my days.
Quotes from Osho, Lao Tzu, Krishanmurti, Zen, and even some from Sark are sent by email once a day, or once a week (you choose), for free.
I highly recommend it :)
More pictures of hamburg
I hav’nt took so much time to write in the last days (again), i keep myself busy with many things… But, i did took some time to visit new parts of hamburg last weekend, there are some pictures of my visit at the city main park (stadtpark). I got a really exiting view of hamburg from the 7th floor of the planetarium, its good to see the city with a new view. Enjoy!
* A really nice view of the city
* A part of the stadtpark
* Took from a view from the air near hamburg
like another day
dontknow
I havnt wrote since a week or so. I had to stop everything for some days, to take some time doing as less as possible. And i did. (of course i think i did nothing but when i look back i still managed to do some website update, maintenance, read a lot, went to painting lessons, planed some new sections of my website, etc. but this was not that much).
I feel like i’ve produced a lot over the last months, since i’v stopped to work fulltime. So now i just feel like letting things go for some time (hehe, a week or 2 should be enough…). I dont feel like drawing or painting, but like most of the time, lots of things are going on in my head. It feels like planting seeds and watching them grow…
Otherwise, i just finished harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban, wich was really cool. I dont know how many times the word “chocolat” happears in the book, but its all about pleasure. Yes, im also a harry potter fan. I think its somehow emptying my head of all the daily thoughts that haunt me. My friend sarah told me some months ago that the books (h.p) helped her going thru a hard period of her life. Well, i strongly believe that some books are therapeutic.
Also, i believe imagination is a power-full healer…
